THE EFFECT OF USING PEER EDITING TECHNIQUE ON STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY ON DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 34 PEKANBARU

- The main objectives of this research were to find out whether there is a significant difference between the students’ Writing Ability on descriptive text taught by using and without using peer editing technique of the Seventh Grade at Junior High School 34 Pekanbaru and whether there is a significant effect of teaching English using Peer Editing technique on the seventh grade students’ ability in writing descriptive text at Junior High School 34 Pekanbaru. The type of this research was quasi-experimental design. The researcher used two groups pretest-posttest design. The researcher used two classes-experimental and controlas sample of the research by using cluster random sampling in which each of them consisted of 20 students chosen from 6 classes as the population of this research. The researcher used test of Written English. While, in analysing the data, the researcher used independent sample t-test and effect size Formula by using SPSS 20 version. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found that T-test calculation was 11.031. It was higher than standard on the T-table that was 2.72 in 1% and 2.03 in 5%. It can be read 2.03 < 11.031 > 2.72. Therefore, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted; or there is a significant difference between using and without using peer editing technique on students’ writing ability on writing descriptive text at the seventh grade of Junior High School 34 Pekanbaru. It also can be seen from effect size calculation that was calculated by using eta squared formula with the result 0.76 or categorised into large effect. Regarding the result of the effect size above, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of teaching English using Peer Editing technique on the seventh grade students’ ability in writing descriptive text at Junior High School 34 Pekanbaru.
