THE EFFECT OF USING VOCABULARY JOURNAL STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT STATE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1 PANGKALAN KURAS

- Based on the writer’s preliminary observation, student could not comprehend the meaning of word in their text book at the school. This problem was caused by some factors. For example, during the teaching and learning the teacher taught by using memorizing strategy. In fact, the writer found out that some of students were bored dan lazy to look for the meaning of vocabulary in the dictionary, it affected the students’ vocabulary mastery. So, the writer was interested in carrying out the research about this problem. The purpose of this research was to obtain the effect of vocabulary journal strategy on students’ vocabulary mastery at state junior high school 1 Pangkalan Kuras. The subject was the eighth grade students of Junior High School 1 Pangkalan Kuras, and the object of this research was the effect of using Vocabulary Journal Strategy on students’ Vocabulary Mastery.. The design of this research was a Quasi-Experimental Research, Non Equivalent Control Group Design. The Population of this research was all of the eighth grade students. The writer took two classes as sample: class VIII A consisted of 25 students as an experimental class and class VIII B consisted of 25 students as a control class. To analyze the data, the writer used an independent sample t-test formula by using software SPSS 16. After analyzing the data, the writer found T shows 4.591, at the level of significance of 5% is 2.01 and the level significance of 1% is 2.68. It can be seen than 2.01<4.591>2.68. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The writer concluded that there was a significant difference betwen using and without usingVocabulary Journal strategy on students’ Vocabulary Mastery of the eighth grade at State Junior High School 1 Pangkalan Kuras.
