THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ SELF-EFFICACY AND THEIR LISTENING COMPREHENSION AT THE ELEVENTHGRADE OF ISLAMIC SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DARUL HIKMAH PEKANBARU

- Based on the School-Based Curriculum (KTSP), the purpose of learning English is to develop students’ competence in oral and written communication in order to reach the functional literacy.Islamic Senior High School DarulHikmah is one of the schools in Pekanbaru that used this curriculum in teaching and learning process. The purpose of this research was to determine self-efficacy, to determine listening comprehension, and also to determine whether there was or not significant correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their listening comprehension at the eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School DarulHikmahPekanbaru. This research was a correlational research. Questionnaire was used to determine students’ self-efficacy and test was used to determine listening comprehension of the students. The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students. Overall the research population was 186 students. The researcher took 31 students as the sample. In analyzing the data, the researcher used pearson product-moment correlation by using SPSS 23.0. The result of the analysis of this research was the sig. (2-tailed) value obtained 0.000 < 0.05 in significance level of 5% and 0.000 < 0.01 in significance level of 1%. It can be concluded that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, there was significant correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their listening comprehension at the eleventh grade of Islamic Senior High School DarulHikmahPekanbaru. Thus, it can be concluded that the higher the students’ self-efficacy is, the higher the students’ listening comprehension will be. Keywords: correlation, self-efficacy, listening comprehension.
