THE EFFECT OF USING PAIRED READING STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION IN NARRATIVE TEXT AT ISLAMIC SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL AZZUHRA PEKANBARU

- This research was conducted due to the problems of students’ reading comprehension in narrative text at Azzuhra Islamic School Pekanbaru. For example, most of the students could not get the meaning of vocabulary that is unfamiliar, identify topic, identify reference, identify inference, and identify generic structurein reading narrative text. The objective of this research was to find out whether there was a significant effect of using Paired Reading Strategy on students’ comprehension in reading narrative text of the eleventh grade at Azzuhra Islamic School Pekanbaru. The design of this research was a quasy experimental design. The population of this research was the students of the Eleventh grade at Azzuhra Islamic School Pekanbaru , in 2017-2018 academic years. The total number of population was 118 students. The sample was taken by using cluster sampling. The sample was class XI IPA 1 that consisted of 30 students as an experimental class, and class XI IPA2 consisted of 30 students as a control class. So, the number of sample from two classes was 60 students. To analyze the data, the researcher adopted independent sample T-test formula by using SPSS 17.version and effect size. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the score of towas higher than t table, which showed (2.00<5.199>1.67). It can be concluded that the students’ comprehension in reading narrative text taught by using Paired Reading Strategy was better than who taught without Paired Reading Strategy at Azzuhra Islamic School Pekanbaru. Besides, the researcher also found that the result of effect size was 0.32. It means that there was significant effect of using Paired Reading Strategy on students’ comprehension in reading narrative text of the eleventh grade at Azzuhra Islamic School Pekanbaru.
