THE EFFECT OF USING CUES AND QUESTIONS STRATEGY ON STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION AT SECOND YEAR OF STATE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 02 SINGINGI

- The researcher conducted a research at State Senior High School 02 Singingi. The formulation of the problem was, is there any significant effect of using Cues and Questions strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at the second year of State Senior High School 02 Singingi. The design of this research was a Quasi-Experimental research. The population of this research was all of the second year students. The total number of population was 101 students. The researcher used cluster sampling technique by taking only two groups as samples; XI IPA 2 consisted of 25 students as an experimental group and XI IPA 1 consisted of 27 students as control group. Therefore, the number of the samples from two classes was 52 students. To analyze the data, the researcher used independent and paired sample t-test formula by using software SPSS 23. In order to find out whether or not there was significant effect of using Cues and Questions strategy on students’ reading comprehension, the researcher examined the effect size or (Eta Squared). Based on the result, the number of Eta squared was 0.37, categorized into large effect. It means null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected while alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In conclusion, there was significant effect of using Cues and Questions strategy on students’ reading comprehension at the second year of State Senior High School 02 Singingi.
