TEACHING ENGLISH BY USING RETELLING STORY OF NARRATIVE TEXT: IT’S EFFECT ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITYAT EIGHT GRADE STUDENTSOF JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL34 PEKANBARU

- This research there were two variables. The first variable was X variable (Retelling Story of Narrative Text) and the second variable was Y variable (Students’ Speaking Ability). The subject of this research was Second Grade Students Of Junior High School34 Pekanbaru. Then, the object was Students’ Speaking Ability. The technique of collecting data was test. The researcher gave the oral test to the students, with come to the front of class to tell the story that they have red, the researcher gave time about two minutes to retell the story. The total of population of this research was 180 students and the total of sample was 30 students. The technique of analyzing the data was paired sample t-test using SPSS version 20. After analyzing the data, it found that the effect of retelling story of narrative text can improve students speaking ability, where sig (2-tailed) 0.000 had less value than 0.05. So that’s way Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. There is a positive effect in using the technique of Retelling Story of Narrative text on students’ speaking ability at second grade students of Senior High School 34 Pekanbaru, where the value of eta square was 0.91 had big value than 0.71.
