THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ READING INTEREST AND READING COMPREHENSION AT STATE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 22 PEKANBARU

- Based on the writer’s prelimenary study, it was found that the students could not prior their knowledge on the Reading Comprehension, students’ do not understanding the meaning of the word from the text, the students’ difficult to get the information from the text and the students’ can’t get the main idea from the english text book with efficiently.this prelimenary study purpose is to find how is the students’ reading comprehension and is any correlation between students reading interest and students’ reading comprehension. The Prelimenary Research is a correlation research. First is Variable X ( students reading interest) and Variable Y ( students’ reading comprehension ). The subject of this research is the second grade of State Junior High School 22 Pekanbaru. And the object of this research is students’ reading comprehension. The instrument of the research is Questionnaire and Multiple choice. To know the result of students reading interest is use a Questionnaire and to know the result of students’ reading comprehension is use Multiple Choice. All of the population in the research is 210 Students’. And then, to taking sampling, so the writer take random sampling with taking sampling each of the class 7 students’. So, the calculation the value in this research use product moment SPSS 20 to analyze the data. So, the writer find that sig 2- tailed < 0,05 ( 0,000 < 0,05 ). And the conclusion is that H0 is ignore and Ha is accept. Keywords: Correlation, Reading Interest, Reading Comprehension
