  • This study aims to find out how is students’ writing ability and to find out the factors contribute to the students writing ability in writing announcement text at the tenth grade of State Senior High School 1 Simpang Kanan, Rokan HIlir Regency. In this mixed method research, the researcher used the test and interview in collecting the data. The researcher took thirty students as sample of 189 students to be tested to find out the students’ writing ability in writing announcement text. Then, the researcher took 10 students to be interviewed to find out the factors contribute to the students’ writing ability in writing announcement text at the Tenth Grade of State Senior High School 1 Simpang Kanan, Rokan Hilir Regency. The result of the of data analysis showed that the students were poor ability in writing announcement text, the lowest scores were in components of mechanics and vocabulary, but most of students had the highest score in component of organization. The main factor that contributes to the students writing ability was motivation. The students were lack of motivation in writing announcement text.
