A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON UNDERSTANDING SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE STUDENTS AT THE TENTH GRADE OF STATE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1 KAMPAR

- The design of this research is a causal comparative research,which intended to know the difference between male and female students’ understanding of subject-verb agreement at the tenth grade of State Senior High School 1 Kampar. The specific objective of this research is to find out whether there is a significant difference between male and female students’ understanding of subject-verb agreement. The population of this research is the tenth grade students which are consisted of 8 classes. The total population of this research is 300 students. Because the sample is divided into two categories (male and female), the minimal sample that should be taken is 30 for each category. Therefore, the sample of this research are consisted of 30 male and 30 female students. Thus, the writer selected 60 students as the sample of this research. In collecting the data, the writer used fill in the blank test to measure male and female students’ understanding on subject-verb agreement. The writer analyzed the data by using statistical method that is independent samples t-test formula by using SPSS.16.0 version. Based on the results, it is found that the mean score of male students is 48.5 (less category) and the mean score of female students is 57 (enough category). In terms of the difference between male and female students’ understanding of subject-verb agreement, the writer has found that the sig. value is 0.000. It can be stated that 0.000<0.05, therefore, the writer has concluded that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Based on the research findings, it might be concluded that there is a significant difference between male and female students on understanding subject of subjectverb agreement at the tenth grade of State Senior High School 1 Kampar.
