There were 30 students as samples by using simple random sampling technique. This research approach was a quantitative method and the technique used in this research was a correlational technique. The questionnaire was constructed based on the indicators of motivation which adopted from The Perceived Competence Scales (Selfdetermination Theory) by William and Deci. Besides, inassessing students’ speaking ability, the researcher conducted oral test to the students by retelling the story and the score was evaluated by two raters. The researcher used Pearson product moment correlation coefficient through SPSS 22.00 to analyze the data. The result of this research shows that sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.000 lower than alpha value (0.05). It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The value of correlation coefficient (r) is 0.706. Inconclusion, there is a significant positive correlation between students’ motivation in learning speaking and their speaking ability. It means that students with higher motivation in learning speaking tend to get better speaking ability than the lower one. Key Word: Correlation, Motivation in Learning Speaking, Speaking Ability
