THE CORRELATION BETWEEN READING COMPREHENSION AND ABILITY IN WRITING RECOUNT PARAGRAPH OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1 KAMPAR

- The purpose of this study is to find out the correlation between reading comprehension and ability in writing recount paragraph of the eighth grade students at Junior High School 1 Kampar. From 285 students of the population which consisted of eleventh classes, the researcher took 55 eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kampar as the sample. The instruments of this research were tests. The test was about recount paragraph in which there were 20 items by using multiple-choice and written test of recount paragraph. Descriptive analysis was used to know students’ reading comprehension and their ability in writing whereas Pearson Product Moment Correlation Technique was used in order to measure the correlation between the two variables which quantified the strength as well as direction of the correlation. Based on the results, it was found that the students’ reading comprehension was 69.27% while their ability in writing was. In terms of the correlation between reading comprehension and their ability in writing, the researcher found that the sig.=0.000<a(0.05) and R Square value was 0.667. Based on the research findings, it could be concluded that there is a significant correlation between reading comprehension and ability in writing.
