- The title of this thesis is “The Comparison between Male and Female Students’ Motivation in Learning English at the Second Year of SMA Al-Huda Pekanbaru”. This research was conducted at the second year of SMA Al-Huda Pekanbaru. The objective of this research is to know a significant comparison between male and female students’ motivation in learning English. The population of this research is the second year of SMA Al-Huda Pekanbaru. They are 65 students that consist of male students are 33 and female students are 32. They are divided into two classes; science and social classes. The writer took all the students as the sample of the research. In order to collect the data of this research, the writer used questionnaires. The questionnaires are used to find out the male and female students’ motivation in learning English. In order to know the comparison between male and female students’ motivation in learning English at the second year of SMA Al-Huda Pekanbaru, the writer used t-test. The formula as follow: t SE MM = yx o MM - yx After doing the research, the writer found that there is any significance difference between male and female students’ motivation in learning English. This statement can be seen from the research finding that t-calculated is higher than t-table on 5% and 1% (2,00<5,367>2,65) with the degree freedom is 63. It means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.
