- This study aims is to determine the effect of parenting style and personality of students toward the students' metacognition ability. The method used was ex post facto. The population in this study were all students of third grade in SMK Negeri 1 Pangkalpinang in the first semester of academic year 2016/2017. The samples were taken by using multistage random sampling technique. The design study used was a 2 x 2 factorial design. The data were collected and calculated using two way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The study concludes that: 1) metacognition ability of students who nurtured with permissive parenting is higher than the students who nurtured with authoritarian parenting, and 2) metacognition ability of students who have an extraversion personality type is higher than students who have an introversion personality type
