THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’TRANSLATION ABILITY AND THEIR WRITING ABILITY AT THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK NEGERI 2 JAMBI CITY IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018

- The objectives of this study were to find out the correlation between students’ translation ability and students’ writing ability, the correlation between students’ translation ability and students’ writing ability and the contribution of students’ translation ability towards students’ writing ability. This is quantitative research with correlation design. The population in this study was the tenth grade Multimedia program SMKN 2 Jambi city which consisted of 3 classes with 105 students. The writer used total sampling which means all students in tenth grade involved in this research. The variables in this were one independent variable (students’ translation ability) and one dependent variable (writing ability). The data were collected by translation test and writing test. Based on the research findings, it revealed that the tenth grade students Multimedia program of SMKN 2 Jambi is average category. The result of the coefficient correlation between students’ translation ability and students’ writing ability was r=0.516. It means that those variables were positively correlated. However, r=0.516 was categorized as moderate correlation. The result of analyzing the significance value is 0.000, it means that 0.000<0.05. So, Null hypothesis (Ho) rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) accepted. The last, from the regression analysis found out that R Square is 0.266 or 26.6%. It means that the translation ability gives contribution as much 12.7% to writing ability.
