- The aim of this study was to investigate the reading strategies employed by students in reading comprehension at State Senior High School 8 Kota Jambi. This a qualitati ve research, the research employing observations and interviews to collect data and data analysis in this research was descriptive analysis. The result of the study showed that in reading strategies employed by students were skimming, scanning, group discussion and playing game strategies to enhance their reading comprehension and also build friendl y. In skimming, the students analyzed the lesson about the news with general information; scanning, the students will be able to get detail information from the text and it can improve the students' reading comprehension; group discussion, the students had made preparation about what kinds of the text that was going to learn and game, the students make a circle in classroom. They wrote the text by continue their friends writing when the students had finished with this activity, they must read it in front of the •class. These strategies helped the students in getting knowledge, information, thinking easier, faster, confidence, motivation, taking and accepting responsibility and more enjoyable ways to master giving the ideas. These strategies made them interested English and also made them were good in reading the texts and also their score in academic.
