THE CORRELATION AMONG LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGIES, READING MOTIVATION, AND READING COMPREHENSION OF EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP N 19 JAMBI CITY

  • The purpose of this study is to know whether or not there are 3 significant correlation among language learning strategies, reading motivation and reading comprehension and the contribution of language learning strategies, reading motivation towards reading comprehension of the 8A,8B,8C, and 8D class grade students at SMP N 19 Jambi City. The sample of this study is 33 students taken from 8th class grade students at SMP N 19 Jambi City. The method used in this study was a quantitative method and the technique used in this study was a correlational technique. In collecting data, the questionnaire of language learning strategies, reading motivation and reading comprehension test. The result of this study shows there is a correlation between ‟ language learningn strategies and reading comprehension”. It is prove by coefficient correlational between ‟ language learning strategies and reading comprehension was r (0.227), it means those variables were very high correlated. The result of analyzing the significant value is 0.204, it means that 0.204<0.05, thus, the null hypothesis (Ho) rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) accepted. The last, from the regression analysis found out that R square is 0.051 or 0.51%, it means that language learning strategies gives contribution as much 0.51% to reading comprehension. There is a correlation between “reading motivation and reading comprehension”. It is prove by cooficient correlational between “ reading motivation and reading comprehension was r (0,080), it means those variables were very high correlated. From the regresion analysis found that R square is 0,006 or 0,06% to reading comprehension, it means that language learning strategies gives contribution as much 0,06% to reading comprehension.
