  • This research uses qualitative research with the descriptive method and uses translation strategies by Mona Baker and type of phrases by Delahunty and Garveys. Documentation techniques are used for collecting the data. Descriptive analysis technique is used for analyzing the data. The results for this research indicate that: (1) There are five types of phrases found in the novel based on the theory by Delahunty and Garvey. They are adjective phrase, adverb phrase, verb phrase, noun phrase, and prepositional phrase. (2) There are 8 (eight) from 9 strategies based on Mona Baker‘s theory adopted by the translator to translate the novel. They are equivalence strategy, translation by more general word (superordinate) strategy, translation by more neutral/less expressive word strategy, translation by cultural substitution strategy, translation using a loan word or loan plus explanation strategy, translation by paraphrase using related word strategy, translation by paraphrase using unrelated word strategy translation by omission strategy.
