- The aims of this research are: (1) to identify the kinds of ambiguity found in Ahmad Tohari‟s Short Stories, and (2) to figure out the causal factors of ambiguity. On this research, the writer applies the theory of ambiguity by Stephen Ullmann. This research is qualitative reseach that conducted by descriptive method. This research uses documents for technique of collecting the data content analysis technique in analyzing the data. The writer found that there were two kinds of ambiguity in Ahmad Tohari‟s Short Stories the are lexical and grammatical ambiguity, and there were two causal factors factors of ambiguity they are polysemy and homonymy, and also the writer interpret the ambiguity word and sentences with lexical and grammatical interpretations.
