- This study presents a comprehension of pragmatics analysis which is limited to analyze the use of Politeness Principles in the dialogues of “Puss in Boots” film. The goals of the study are to describe Tact and Sympathy Maxims employed in the conversations of the film and to determine situational context. Qualitative method is used in this study. Then, to describe Politeness Principles, theory from Leech (2014) is used to analyze about Tact and Sympathy Maxims and Fromkin’s (2003) theory is used to analyze situational context. As the result, the Politeness Principles especially Tact and Sympathy Maxims occurred in this American action comedian film and situational context was employed. There were 24 data of Tact and Sympathy Maxims, the most Maxim employed was Sympathy Maxim. Keyword: Pragmatics, Politeness Principles, Situational Context, Tact Maxim, Sympathy Maxim
