Daftar Isi:
- This study is aimed at showing that teaching phonics as a strategy by using direct method can improve the students’ pronunciation. The research was conducted in Petra School, Jakarta at Kindergarten II level. The direct method was used in the teaching of phonics in which English as the target language was focused on the language being learnt. This is because phonics is the study that learns English words through sounds or phonemes. The quantitative method was conducted to get the result of the study, hence the pre-test and the post-test were used to get the data. The data were obtained from the 21 students. There were 30 same words used based on the phonics teaching for the pre-test and the post-test. Then, the data were calculated using certain formulas manually and computer assisted program, “SPSS.” It was conducted to get the results of the t-test and the sig.(2-tailed) in order to seek the significant difference after the treatment of phonics.
