- This study is aimed at students’ motivation in reading comprehension through STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions), which has done at 2nd grade of MTs. Darunnajah 2 Cipining Islamic Boarding School Bogor. In this study the writer uses descriptive study in qualitative approach. The data source was taken from questionnaire and interview the students about motivation in reading at the classroom. The finding are there were 55% students had low motivation in reading and 45% students had high motivation before STAD technique was used. After STAD technique was used there were 19% students only had low motivation in reading, but there were 81% students have high motivation. There were some significant comparisons between reading before using STAD technique and after it. It can be concluded that STAD technique is successful in increasing students’ motivation while reading in the classroom. Keywords: Reading skill, Motivation, STAD, Qualitative.
