- The study aimedat analyzing speech act in “Fight Club” Novel by Chuck Palahniuk. The discussion was limited only in part of speech act onPerlocutionary act in ’Fight Club” novel. Speech Act in this study was analyzed by using Austin J.L (1965) theory. To analyze the data, this study used thequalitative descriptive method. This study used the conversations that were found in fight club novel. The result of this study deals with a perlocutionarythat influencesthe character's actionaccording to certain utterances that happened in the fight club novel. Speech acts can be identified from the utterances on the texts taken from this novel. From the data analysis,the writer found that there are five utterances which contain elements offive advice, five scaring, five suggestions, and four informing utterances. The writer found the most dominant datum from this novel analysis is about convincing someone.The purpose of this analysis is to prove that speech acts that has a major influence on the response of the listener. Especially the perlocutionary act, which can influence a person's response only with certain words that contain that element and make the person perform a particular action according to the utterances. Then the writer tried to find that influence in the fight club novel.
