- The aim of this the study, is to discuss teaching vocabulary using real objects, pictures, and gestures as the materials through direct method, the data taken from this study were by doing observation, interview in the class, and giving some questionnaires to the students to know about their responses in learning vocabulary using direct method. The writer chose the third grade at SD Negeri Pondok Cabe Ilir 01 as the objects in his research, The teacher gave the exercises to examine the students’ ability in mastery vocabulary were in the form of multiple choice exercises, filling in the blank, completing words, questions and answering sessions, mentioning the names of things in the classroom, mentioning kinds of transportation and mentioning of parts of the body. From the result of the study, the students could answer the questions well, and they got good score. The writer concluded that teaching vocabulary using direct method were easy for the students in understanding vocabulary. Almost 80% the students mastered the materials were given by the English teacher. Key words: Teaching, Vocabulary, Direct Method.
