- ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY TESTING ON SECANG LEAF EXTRACT TOWARDS Streptococcus mutans GROWTH ABSTRACT Streptococcus mutans are one of many bacteria that causes tooth and mouth infection. Secang leaves are known to have antibacterial properties such as flavonoid, fenol, tannin, and saponin. This research is a true experiment designed with complete random experimentation, we used Kirby-Bauer diffusion discs method on four concentrations (20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%) work controls (chloramphenicol 30 ìg) and negative control (96% ethanol). Results shown that secang leaves extract is able to resist the Streptococcus mutans with resistant diameter zone of 20% (11.55 mm), 40% (13.02 mm), 60% (13.02 mm), 80% (16.57 mm), and negative control negatif (0 mm). Through the Kruskal Wallis test, we obtained a value of p (0.000) < á (0,05) which means that there is a difference in resistant diameter zone of the Streptococcus mutans bacteria growth on various concentration of secang leaves ethanol extract. In conclusion, this experiment provides that there is an antibacterial activity from secang leaves ethanol extract towards the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria.
