  • DESCRIPTION OF ORAL HYGIENE INDEX SIMPLIFIED (OHI-S) AND DENTAL CARIES IN THE ELDERLY AT PAKRAMAN TONJA VILLAGE HAMLET TANGGUNTITI in 2019 ABSTRACT Oral hygiene is a condition or condition of free teeth from plaque and calculus, both of which are always formed on the teeth and extend throughout the tooth surface. Caries is a dental tissue disease characterized by tissue damage from the tooth surface (pit, fissure, and interproximal area) extends towards the pulp. The purpose of this research is to know the description of tooth and mouth hygiene level and dental caries on elderly with visual impairment in PakramanTonja village hamlet Tangguntiti in 2019. The research conducted was descriptive research with survey design. The results of research conducted on 40 elderly about the level of dental and oral hygiene obtained the highest number, namely the criteria medium (55%), the average dental caries was 5.45. The conclusion from this study show that remale respondents were more than men, namely female respondents as many ass 22 (55%). The average dental caries in the elderly in the village of Pakraman Tonja hamlet Tangguntiti at 5.45 and the level of dental and oral hygiene had moderate OHI-S criteria (2.78). It is recommended for dental health workers in the Tonja Assistant Health Center to promote the elderly and the respondent's family as prevention and preventive and curative efforts in the field of dental and oral health.
