- The origin of Madrasah in Indonesia is from surau, pesantren, or rangkang form. Madrasah emerge caused by challenge of Dutch referring to the ethical politics. Besides that it is also pushed by the existence of the effort completion of more conducive education system of its grad to get the equal opportunity to public school, especially job opportunity at the Colonial government and also the existence of moslim, that surprised to Western in sciences, economic, and technology. A lot of Moslem scholar are meritorious in growth of madrasah. That way, Islamic organization founded many madrasahs, or at least added the public school with the religion subject, for example: Muhammadiyah, Jam`iyat Al-Khair, Al-Irsyad, Mathla` al-Anwar, Association of People Islam, PERTI, Nahdlatul Moslem scholar, Jamiyatul Wasiliyah. The first of Surau or of pesantren that innovated to be a madrasah system, or at least to be school, is Jembatan Besi Surau. It was in 1914. The growth of madrasah in Indonesia was influenced by the ulama graduated from Middle East, Jama`ah Haji which lived in Mecca and Medina for a few moment, and an education system developed by colonial in Nusantara. Growth of madrasah in Indonesia does not run well, this matter is caused by a number of matter, the most is their duty to teact the public subject matters and also the religion subject matters.
