Using Porpe to Improve Reading Skill of the First Graders of MTs Al-Hidayah Ngancar Kediri

- Reading is one of the most important skills in learning, because it is a key to understand the whole text what we read. Reading comprehension comprises a complex and active process of meaning constructing resulting from the reader’s interacting with the text. But many students feel difficult to understand the text, because they can not read the meaning of the text. Especially in Junior High School, the students got difficulty to understand the text when the teacher in the elementary school never gives them strategy to read and technique to understand the text. Thus, this thesis is conducted to improve reading skill of the first graders of MTs Al-Hidayah Ngancar Kediri by using PORPE. Classroom Action Research is an area that is gaining increased attention and recognition in the field of educational research. To do this research, research process includes four stages: planning, action, observing and reflecting. The subjects of the research are the students of class VII at the academic year 2016/2017. The students of this class consist of 24 students. The criteria of success is minimum score (KKM) 75, when 80% of the students get 75 minimally and 20% of the students get 68 minimally it means that they are successful in teaching and learning process. The method of PORPE in this reasearch is successful to increase reading skill of the first graders of MTs Al-Hidayah Ngancar Kediri. The first result, the students are active and not bored in the classroom learning activities. Next, the students are able to follow the step of PORPE in which students have to be active to response the answer in discussion group. The third result, the percentage of students response in cycle 1 was 80% and the percentage of individual test in cycle 1 was 88%.
