The Use of PJBL (Project Based Learning) to Improve Students’ Writing Skill at SMAN 1 Pare

- Writing is one of skills that should be mastered by the students in learning English. The goal of writing is the students are able to write a good sentences. This research involved qualitative study especially CAR (Classroom Action Research). The aim of this study was to improve writing skills of students through PJBL (Project Based Learning) as teaching method. This research was conducted in SMAN 1 Pare which is located at Pahlawan Kusuma Bangsa Street No.41, Pare, Kediri, East Java. The research subjects were threety five students in XI IPA 4 at SMAN 1 Pare. The data of this study was collected by using test, observation sheet, and field note. The objective of this research was to know and explain how the implementation of Project Based Learning on writing skill at SMAN 1 Pare. This research consisted of two cycles. The result of cycle 1 showed that there were eight students who did not pass the test. It was because some students were not interested to do their assignment, they do not ask to their teacher or discuss with their friend in a group if they got difficulty. It means that criteria of success do not reached yet and the researcher continue to the next cycle. In the cycle 2 the reseacher explained more about the material and asked the students to discuss with their team about the correction related with the common mistakes they used in writing. The result of cycle 2 showed that thirty one students pass the test. The students more paid attention, enjoyed, active, and participate during learning process. The result of students’ writing skill improvement was supported by the result of the test score. The mean score of every test in each cycle showed the improvement. The mean result of the students writing score was 65.88 improved into 79.42 in Test 2 and improved into 86.22 in Test 3. From the observation, the researcher founded that the students got improvement after conducted PJBL in learning process. The result of the research showed that PJBL (Project Based Learning) could improve students’ writing skill at SMAN 1 Pare.
