Y.</creator><subject>200401 Applied Linguistics and Educational Linguistics</subject><description>Speaking is one of the most important skills in learning a foreign&#xD; language, especially English. Speaking is the ability to express, convey ideas or&#xD; feelings verbally. Researchers found that many students who learn English still&#xD; have problems communicating with others because their speaking skills have not&#xD; been developed properly and are supported by the learning process in the&#xD; classroom which is not yet on target because the techniques used do not work&#xD; optimally with the situation. The purpose of this study was to determine the&#xD; effectiveness of the use of story completion techniques in the learning process of&#xD; speaking for the tenth grade students of SMAN 6 Kediri.&#xD; This research methodology use a quasi-experimental design with the&#xD; treatment held in three meetings, 2 x 45 minutes for each class. This design uses a&#xD; pre-test posttest to determine students' speaking abilities before treatment and&#xD; after treatment. The population of this research is the students of class X SMAN 6&#xD; Kediri. Samples were taken two classes, one class as an experimental class was X&#xD; IPS 1 consisting of 36 students and the other class as a control class was X IPS 2&#xD; consisting of 35 students. In collecting data, the researcher used instruments in&#xD; pre-test and post-test. Test instruments speak in oral form. After giving a post-test,&#xD; the researchers then analyzed the data using SPSS 21.0.&#xD; The results of this research showed that the data are normally distributed.&#xD; It was proven by the Shapiro-Wilk test that p is (0.266) for pre-test of the&#xD; experimental group, p (0.212) for pre-test of the control group, p (0.135) for posttest of the experimental group, and p (0.165) for post-test of the control group.&#xD; Those were higher than &#x3B1; (0.05). The Levene&#x2019;s test showed p (0.920) &gt; &#x3B1; (0.05).&#xD; The homogeneity regression showed that p (0.419) &gt; &#x3B1; (0.05). It means there is no&#xD; interaction between covariate variables and independent variables. Then, the result&#xD; of ANCOVA showed that the significant value p is (0,000) &lt; &#x3B1; (0.05). It was&#xD; enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternative&#xD; hypothesis. Based on the above findings, the researcher concludes that Story&#xD; completion is an effective technique for improving students' speaking skills.</description><date>2020</date><type>Thesis:Thesis</type><type>PeerReview:NonPeerReviewed</type><type>Book:Book</type><language>eng</language><identifier>http://etheses.iainkediri.ac.id/2045/1/932205316%20prabab.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>eng</language><identifier>http://etheses.iainkediri.ac.id/2045/2/932205316%20bab1.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>eng</language><identifier>http://etheses.iainkediri.ac.id/2045/3/932205316%20bab2.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>eng</language><identifier>http://etheses.iainkediri.ac.id/2045/4/932205316%20bab3.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>eng</language><identifier>http://etheses.iainkediri.ac.id/2045/5/932205316%20bab4.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>eng</language><identifier>http://etheses.iainkediri.ac.id/2045/6/932205316%20bab5.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>eng</language><identifier>http://etheses.iainkediri.ac.id/2045/7/932205316%20DP.pdf</identifier><type>Book:Book</type><language>eng</language><identifier>http://etheses.iainkediri.ac.id/2045/8/932205316%20lamp.pdf</identifier><identifier> Firmansyah, M.
