Daftar Isi:
- (Centella asiatica (L.) Urb) is one of the medicinal plants that has properties such as overcoming fever, anti-allergic, anti-inflammation, and central nervous system stimulants. The chemical compounds contained in the essential oil of C. asiatica are known to act as antibacterial. This study was to determine the antimicrobial activity of C.asiatica essential oil on the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans. The method used by the steam-water distillation method, the distillate results were carried out by Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry and antimicrobial activity by microdilution method. The results showed that oil yield was 0,01% and with 37 compound components, 5 components of the main compounds with the highest concentration were (E)-β-farnesene (17,85%), Caryophyllene (13,55%), Germacrene-D (9,61%), α-Humulene (9,54%), β-Elemene (7,80%). The antimicrobial test results of C.asiatica essential oil on S.epidermidis bacteria with MIC and MBC ≤ 0,2%, P.aeruginosa bacteria with MIC and MBC values respectively 50% and 100%, and C.albicans fungi with MIC and MBC 100%. The results showed that essential oils of C. asiatica were more influential and had the potential to inhibit the growth of Gram positive bacteria compared to the inhibition of Gram negative bacteria and fungi.
