Comparison of depression level between young-old and old-old elderly in Panti Wherda Bina Bakti, Tangerang
Daftar Isi:
- Population of elderly worldwide as well as in Indonesia is growing rapidly and this triggers increasing health issues such as depression. Several research studies stated that age is related to elderly depression but it has not been strongly proven. For this reason, the researcher was interested in investigating age as one of the risk factors for elderly depression. The purpose of the study is to compare the depression levels between young-old (65-74 years old) and old-old (75-84 years old) elderly in Panti Wherdha Bina Bakti Tangerang. This study is a quantitative design with cross sectional comparison with total 40 elderly included. The data was analyzed using Mann-Whitney U test with p-value 0.381 (p-value > 0.05 show no difference) and it means that statistically there is no significant difference. The result is contrary to the hypothesis. This is probably because of the complexity of other depression factors that may affect the elderly life. Thus, further studies are recommended to explore other influencing factors and also the protective factors that can prevent depression.
