  • Rasmussen's Encephalitis (RE) is a rare chronic progressive inflammatory disease of unknown origin, resulting in unilateral brain atrophy. Some clinical findings support autoimmune or viral infection as an etiology for RE. The incident of RE is 1.7 to 2.4:10,000,000 births1, which is characterized by unilateral progressive destruction of the brain, intractable epilepsy, deterioration of neurological and cognitive function. Onset of the symptoms commonly appears in children within the age of 2 to 18 years old, and uncommon in adults.
