- Pesantren is an institution that has significant role in social life, because of which it is one of the important agents of change, aspecially in the context of the building proces of independent society. This research is a case study, applying qualitative approach, intended to identify the contribution of Pesantren Raudlatul Ulum Curahtakir, Tempurejo, Jember, to the societal self-sufficiency building process. Applying inter-active model of qualitative-discriptive technique to analyze the data, this research concluded that the contribution of Pesantren Raudlatul Ulum to realize the autonomious society was done through twi wasy: education and economy.
