  • In this research, the objectives of the research was found out the effectiveness of reciprocal technique toward students’ reading skill of recount text at the eighth grade students’ of SMP Negeri 2 Sooko in academic year 2018/2019. Reciprocal technique covers four strategies, they are generating question, clarifying, summarizing, and predicting. The method in this research was quasi-experimental research. The quasi-experimental research designed were used two classes which were taught two different techniques. The experiment class was taught with reciprocal technique, and controlled class was taught without reciprocal technique. The populations in eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Sooko consist 177 students; the samples are 64 students (32 students experiment class and 32 students for controlled class). The sampling technique that was used was convenience sampling. Moreover, this research was conducted through the following procedures: giving pretest, applying treatment, and giving posttest. The data analyzed in this research was gathered through test, after getting the score from the test, it was analyzed and processed by using statistical data calculation of T-test formula by using SPSS. The result of the research proved that there was a difference score between students’ score in learning reading skill of recount text by using reciprocal technique and without using reciprocal technique. According to the statistical calculation result, t_o = 5.928 and with df=62 in 5% significance level t_table= 1.670 it means that t_o>t_table. So, the H_alternative is accepted. In addition, the reciprocal technique is effective in teaching reading skill on recount text in students grade eighth of SMP Negeri 2 Sooko academic 2018/2019.
