  • This research is aimed to know the effectiveness of subtitling through archetypal movie on students’ vocabulary mastery in Ma’had Al-Islam Genengan senior high school. Vocabulary is the basic knowledge of language learning. It supports the four language skills. EFL learners of Indonesia use the vocabulary building as one of their ways to gain successful learning. There were different ways of acquiring vocabularies. This research focused on the vocabulary mastery through subtitling, which is transcription of film dialogue. It has three phases: extracting dialogs, translating dialogs, and adjusting the dialogs to the movie. The researcher chose the translation as the treatment of this research. The archetypal movie that used in this research is: The Boy And The Beast. The researcher used descriptive quantitative to analyze the data. The students were given a list of vocabulary test before and after the treatment. The score then analyzed using SPSS. The result was that the treatment has a good impact to students’ vocabulary mastery.
