ENGLISH FOR NURSE ACADEMY STUDENTS A NEEDS ANALYSIS (A Study at ‘’Akper of Bengkulu Province”)

  • This study aimed to investigate the students’ needs of English language skills and materials at the Akper of Bengkulu Province . The population of this research comprised of students of fiffh semester and lectures. The samples were taken by using random sampling technique. There were 22 students and 19 lectures as samples of this study. To collect the data, the researcher used a set of questionnaire and interview, involving English language skills and materials. The data were analyzed using percentage formula. The results of the study show that the nurse academy students only moderately need English skills. The most needed skill for the respondents is reading, especially to read materials such as reading textbook, journal, and email. The second needed skill for the respondents is speaking, for example talking in the telephone and giving the information. In terms of vocabulary needs, the respondents reported that and they need vocabulary on medical. The results of syllabus analysis show that the materials have been designed based on the needs analysis English for nurse academy students, but the reading activities still lack of variation.
