  • The problems that formulated in this analysis are “ What is the theme in Hamlet, What is the plot in Hamlet and How are the characterization of the characters in Hamlet. The objectives of this research are to find out the theme, plot and to describe the characterization of the characters in Hamlet. The method that used in this research is descriptive method. The data collected by literary work and some theories that support this research. From the discussion the writer can get result of this research that the theme is Betrayal, the plot of this research consists of five stages, exposition, complication, crisis, catastrophe, resolution. The characters of this research divided into two groups major and minor characters, the major characters were Hamlet and Claudius, and the minor characters were Gertrude, Polonius, Laertes, Horatio, Ophelia, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. The writer hopes the readers not only interested to a literary works because the story is good or interesting, but the readers may learn and understood what aspect that makes the story is interesting.
