- The purpose of this study is to find out what are the causes, impacts and policies used in overcoming inflation in Indonesia during the New Order and reform era. The research method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the results of the research, the causes of inflation in the New Order period were demand demand inflation: the money supply, interest rates and government budget deficits. In terms of cost push inflation: exchange rate depreciation, trading partner inflation and administered prices. Effects of inflation: inflation does not have an impact on unemployment, enough to have an impact on poverty and impact on economic growth. Policy used, monetary policy: depreciation of the value of the local currency, SBI interest rates raised, changing the exchange rate system. Fiscal policy: Attempting to reallocate spending on unproductive activities, a number of large projects were postponed and delayed non-urgent government spending. The causes of inflation in the New Order era were divided, namely from the demand pull inflation side: the money supply and interest rates. In terms of cost push inflation: exchange rate depreciation, trading partner inflation and administered prices. Effects of inflation: inflation does not have an impact on unemployment, enough to have an impact on poverty and not too much impact on economic growth. Policies used, monetary policy: discount policy, open market operations and determination of cash inventories. Fiscal policy: raising taxes, saving government spending and establishing debt settlement mechanisms.
