- Bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walq is a plant have been shown as antidiabeticpotential outside widely used in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to investigate the glucose concentration lowering effect ofethanol extract of bay leaves in glucose loaded mice. Theextract of ethanol bay leaves in extraction with maceration method. Twenty five Balb/c mice were divided into 5 groups used randomized design: glucose induced control, metformincontrol (as a comparison drug), and 3 variants dose of 96% ethanol extract of bay leaves allleaves group were treated loaded by glucose monohydrate (124,8; 249,6; and 499,2 mg/20 gb.w. muse). After being fasted for 16 hours, all mice were administered with test samples andloaded by glucose monohydrate (2 g/kg b.w. mouse). Blood glucose concentration wasmeasured after fasting, thirty minutes after administration and subsequently at 30, 60, 90, and120 minutes after glucose load using glucometer. The result show thatethanol extract of bay leaves in dose level of 124,8; 249,6; and 499,2 mg/20 g b.w. muse were able to lower bloodglucose concentration significantly at 60, 90 and 120 minutes after glucose load with glucoseconcentration lowering percentage about 20-35%.
