  • Governmental policy on coffee development in Indonesia was oriented to enhance production proportion of arabica coffee. Arabica coffee was well-grown at > 1000 m above sea level. Consideration was put on extensification of arabica coffee at lower area, middle and even low-land environment, of which were habitate of robusta. Consequently, an inovation should be proposed to engineer more adaptive arabica coffee under lower altitude. Grafting was a simple technology of combining goodness among two coffee genotypes, i.e. understump robusta and entress arabica, to gain new coffee genotype namely robbica. Ten genotypes of robbica were planted at two different low-land location namely experimental station, Faculty of Agriculture the University of Bengkulu (5 m above sea level), and collection station, Bentiring Permai (10 m above sea level) since 2007. Evaluation was taken place in October 2009. The best performance was shown by genotype of entress local arabica Gayo Upland, Nangroe Aceh Darussalam, and genotype of entress local North Sumatera. Couple leaves width and leaf greenness characteristics could considerably used for effective selection amongst low-land arabica coffee population. Heritability values of leaf characteristics, and nitrate reductase activity were low untill middle range in classification.
