STUDENTS’ ORAL PRESENTATIONS IN ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (EFL) CLASSROOM (A Descriptive Study at the Third Year of English Education Study Program in Bengkulu University)

  • This research aimed at identifying the language learning strategies employed by the students in doing oral presentations and describing the factors that can influence students ability in doing oral presentation skills in enhancing their speaking skill. This descriptive research involved 24 third year students of English Education Study Program In Bengkulu University as the subject of the reseach. The data were obtained from a structured interview, videos recording of students’ oral presentations, and questionnaire. The data were analyzed and interpreted to see what language learning strategies commonly used by students in doing oral presentation and possible factors which can influence their skill in doing oral presentations. The results show that, first, the students employed a combination of direct and indirect strategies. However, a tendency among students to employ indirect strategies than the direct ones although the differences was not significant. Second, factors which contributed to students ability in doing oral presentation were teacher factor, student factor, IT support factor, learning experience factor, educational background factor, and parents’ role factor.
