THE SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS’ BELIEFS ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING

- This research aimed at investigating the beliefs about language learning that successful students of English Education Study Program at Bengkulu University possessed in learning English. The reserach was conducted at English Education Study Program of Bengkulu University. The design of this research was descriptive method with the nature of the data both quantitative and qualitative. The subject of this research were 24 successful students on the sixth semester of English Education Study Program at Bengkulu University. The BALLI (Beliefs About Language Learning Inventory) questionnaire and question list are used as the instruments of this research. The data obtained from questionnaire were computed on the computer and the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used to analyze the data. The result of this research revealed that the successful students reported did not believe in the existance of foreign language aptitude. They reported viewing English as a language of medium difficulty. In regard to factors that lead to success in learning English, the successful students reported believing that one should start learning early in their childhood. They believed that practice was important and a lot of them reported enjoying practicing English with foreigners. They had high motivation to learn English and wanted to be able to speak English well. Keywords: Successful Students, Language Learning Beliefs, English Language Learning.
