- This research investigated students’ ability in dentifying taboo words in 21jump street movie. This movie is a 2012 American action comedy film. The objective of this research is to describe English Education Study Program of Bengkulu University Students’ ability in identifying taboo words. This research employed descriptive qualitative as the method. The research subjects were sixth semester students in English Education Study Program of Bengkulu University.There were 58 students who participated as research sample. They were asked to watch a scene from 21 jump street movie then given a test. The test was dialogues from the scene being watched. Then they underlined the words or phrases they believed were taboo. There were 55 taboo words consisted in the test. Taboo words that presented were divided into six categories based on theory of Wardhaugh (1986). They were (One’s) Mother-in-law, Sex, Death, Excretion,Bodily functions, and Religious matters. The result of this research showed that the sixth semester students’ ability in identifying taboo words was Good. The average score was 35 out of 55 taboo words that appear in the test. 24 students even were Excellent in finding taboo words consisted in the script. Besides, there was just only one student who categorized as Moderate. Based on the results, the students are not familiar with the words related to Death. Many words and phrases also which the students did not underline were taboo words related to Religion matter category.
