- This research investigated the reinforcement applied by teachers in teaching English in SMPN 11 Bengkulu. This was a descriptive research. The subjects of this research were three English teachers in SMPN 11 Bengkulu. The data were collected by using observation checklist and field note. The result shows there were three components of reinforcement applied by English teachers at SMPN 11 Bengkulu : Verbal reinforcement is the dominant component applied by the teachers (60.22%), non-verbal reinforcement (20.45%), and combination between verbal and non verbal reinforcement (19.31%). The teachers applied the reinforcement to all of students or individual by mentioning students’ name /groups and looking at the students that they praised. The teacher also gave the reinforcement when the students did the good performance in the classroom such as they can answer the question correctly. From the result the researcher concluded that the English teachers at SMPN 11 Bengkulu applied all component of reinforcement in teaching.Key Words : English Teachers’ reinforcement in teaching
