- This research was aimed to find out reading strategies used by second grade students at SMKN 3 Kota Bengkulu. The population of this research was 348 students. The sampling of the research was 54 students. This research used descriptive quantitative method. The data were collected by administering the questionnaire toward the subjects of the research. The data were analyzed based on O xford ’s c lassific at io n of t h e S ILL average analysis. The students at SMKN 3 Kota Bengkulu used the four reading strategies in teaching and learning process. The strategies were cognitive, metacognitive, compensation and testing strategies. The result showed that testing strategies (3.8) was the most frequent strategies used by second grade students. It was followed by metacognitive strategies with average score (3.6). Both of the strategies used in high category. Compensation strategies were used in medium category by the students with average score (3.4). and cognitive strategies had (3.3) average score and it was used in medium category.
