- Abstract Food scarcity and food deprivation are problems among the poor in developing country like Indonesia. Around one in eight people in the world were estimated to be suffering from chronic hunger. Food insecurity is closely associated with poverty. People who live in poor households are prone to experiences food insecurity condition which influences their well-being. Household food insecurity can negatively affect food consumption, including reduced dietary variety, nutrient intake, and nutritional status of household members including children. Our objective was to examine the relations between food security and nutritional status of children under-five. We conducted a cross sectional study of 79 household that had under-five children. Data on the children's weights and heights were collected and interviewed used Short versions of US-FSSM questionnaire were conducted. Results shows that most of the household had food insecure status (70.9%). Prevalence of underweight, stunting, and wasting were 10,1%, 21,5%, and 3,8% respectively. The proportion of underweight children was higher among the food insecure households than among the food insecure household. Meanwhile, prevalence of stunting and wasting children in food secure households was higher than food insecure households. However, There were no significant different between household food security using US-FSSM category with nutritional status (underweight, stunting, and wasting) (p>0.05).
