- Stroke was a worldwide major disease in elderly. The result 60,1% of stroke patients in Indonesia are non hemorrhagic stroke, while 36,3% are hemorrhagic stroke. Non hemorrhagic stroke cases in elderly increase from year to year, especially in Palembang, cause by hypertension. This study aimed to determine the relationship in hypertension with non-hemorrhagic stroke incidence in elderly at Muhammadiyah Hospital Palembang. This research used descriptive analytic study using cross sectional design. This research sample as many as 101 patients, with a total sampling technique. This research showed the prevalence oj nonhemorrhagic stroke in elderly patients were 76 patients (75,2%), the prevalence of hypertension in elderly stroke patients were 96 patients (95,0%), age nonhemorrhagic stroke patients in elderly patients as much in age 65-69 years were 21 patients (27,6%), gender non-hemorrhagic stroke patients in elderly were 37 male patients (48,7%) and female patients were 39 patients (51,3%). The Prevalence Ratio was 3,906 with 95% confidence interval between 0,675 to 22,620, indicating that a history of hypertension was a strong risk factor affecting the incidence of non-hemorrhagic stroke in the elderly.
