  • Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations already finalized in 2016, but China was not included in the agreement led by the U.S. Using TPP to counterbalance Chinas increasing influence in the region could be one of the motives of the U.S. economic policies, known as U.S. Asian Pivot. The agreement however aims to increase quality of trade amongst the participating countries. Signatories of TPP agree to maintain high standards on use of human and environmental resources and good government standards. This has led China to either push its own FTAs and also to finalize the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which was initiated in 2013. These, as Chinas economic strategic responses, is needed to counter the TPP impacts in Chinas economy and hegemon status in East Asia.
