  • This research focuses on the challenges faced by Indonesian government in addressing Merbau timber smuggling. The number of Merbau timber smuggling remains high although several efforts have been done by Indonesian government. This research analyzed related literatures such as books and articles from journals and websites. The writer also conducted interviews with staffs of local NGO called TELAPAK and the Forestry Ministry of the Republic of Indonesia. The research concluded that the challenges faced by Indonesian government in addressing Merbau timber smuggling are lack of law enforcement in Papua, unclear law structure in Indonesia, the local land transformation, and mafia of demands of Merbau timber trade.
