  • This study portrays the challenges encountered by teachers in their profesional practice in dealing with a range of complex situations, both personal and external, in an attempt to create a vision for an improved teaching and learning environment. The teaching of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) at Trisakti University in Jakarta, Indonesia is faculty-based and aims to develop both reading and writing skills using language samples from content areas relating to the disciplines of each faculty. However, students’ immediate needs to learn ESP resolved from their understanding of the importance of English for their future careers which exemplified from teachers’ motivation in teaching ESP. In accordance with the need to be self-motivated, teachers need to bring changes not only for themselves but also for the students in compulsory ESP. The result of the study shows that when teachers to improve self-motivated in creating the new teaching enrironment, student will be able perform better in the classrom practice. Self-motivated is recognized as one of the ways in developing teachers profesional abilities which at the same time serves as an instrument in reaching one's individual goals
